Why Mac users needed Windows
The Egyptian Tax Authority’s e-invoicing portal (invoicing.eta.gov.eg) signs documents through ITIDA’s signing helper, and that helper only runs on Windows.
So Mac users have been running Windows in a virtual machine such as Parallels, or keeping a separate Windows PC just to sign.
Your options
Windows in a virtual machine: install Windows in Parallels (or similar) on your Mac and sign from there.
A separate Windows PC: move your token to another computer whenever you need to sign.
ETA Signer: a small Mac menu-bar app that replaces the Windows signing helper, so you sign from your Mac’s own browser.
What you need
- macOS 13 Ventura or later. Apple Silicon and Intel (Universal).
- USB token with an Egypt Trust certificate. Via the Mac’s built-in token support or PKCS#11 (e.g. Feitian ePass2003 with OpenSC or the vendor library).
- Any browser on your Mac. Whichever one opens the e-invoicing portal.
Step by step
Download ETA Signer
Fill in the short form on the download page. You get a link valid for 24 hours.
Install it
Open the DMG and drag ETA Signer into Applications, then open it. It lives in the menu bar.
Trust it once
The first time, macOS asks for your password once, to trust ETA Signer’s connection on your Mac.
Plug in your token
ETA Signer uses the Mac’s built-in token support or PKCS#11. For a Feitian ePass2003, that means OpenSC or the vendor library.
Open the portal and click sign
Use invoicing.eta.gov.eg in your browser as usual and choose the documents to sign.
Check the summary
ETA Signer shows a native Mac window summarising exactly what you are about to sign.
Enter your PIN once
One PIN for the batch (up to 10 documents). The token signs, and the signature goes back to the portal.
Is it safe?
Your private key never leaves the token, your PIN is never stored, and only the official portal can talk to the app.
How ETA Signer keeps you safeIs it official?
No. ETA Signer is independent and not made, endorsed or supported by the Egyptian Tax Authority, ITIDA, Egypt Trust or any token maker. Names are used only to describe compatibility.
What does it cost?
3 free signatures per tax registration number, then a one-time licence per tax number. No subscription.
